Why Field Notes

Notes that belong to you, and only you.

Field Notes is a prototype — a sketch of the notes app we'd want to use. No accounts. No tracking. No file uploads.

01

Stays on your device

Notes persist in localStorage. Close the tab, come back tomorrow — they're still here. Clear the browser and they're gone, so use Export for anything you want to keep.

02

Markdown, not magic

A tiny hand-written parser turns your text into clean HTML. No fancy shortcuts to unlearn. What you type is what's stored — plain text, portable forever.

03

One keystroke away

Press N for a new note. /Ctrl+S forces a save (though we autosave as you go). Type #tag to file things.

More experiments

Field Notes is one of several prototypes. The rest are on the workbench.

Built to chase questions, learn techniques, and see how far an idea carries before it breaks.
